Al Qaeda endorses McCain for President
I know the blog is called Disinformation Station, but this is not a joke. Rush Limbaugh briefly mentioned the fact that Al Qaeda endorsed McCain last week on his radio show. It was in passing and he brushed it off as “reverse psychology” on their part.
But the fact remains that Al Qaeda has endorsed McCain for President on a password protected website of theirs.
Why would they do such a thing? Well, if you don’t dismiss the New York Times out of hand as part of the liberal left’s media bias and therefore the forward wing of the Obama campaign and the socialist movement, there is an excellent opinion article on the topic that might explain a few things for you.
The short version is that Al Qaeda seems to think a McCain presidency will be better for recruitment to their cause than an Obama presidency. And really, it is pretty hard to argue otherwise when you think about it. McCain represents a symbolic continuation of the Bush administration and as such represents a more attractive enemy. Remember this is a group that makes its reputation in opposition to American policy.
As the New York Times article puts it:
“An American president who keeps troops in Iraq indefinitely, fulminates about Islamic terrorism, inclines toward military solutions and antagonizes other nations is an excellent recruiting tool. In contrast, an African-American president with a Muslim grandfather and a penchant for building bridges rather than blowing them up would give Al Qaeda recruiters fits.”
In other words, Al Qaeda wants the most aggressive American president possible to help them make their case for jihad against the United States. Obama’s admittedly vague stated goal of “change” in all areas including foreign policy implies at least a rethinking of American interventionism and wars of empire. Such an ideological shift stands to sap Al Qaeda’s ideological raison d’être.
